craft tuesday

it was a busy day, but we managed to fit some crafting in. wooo!

today's craft: 3-d rainbows (inspired by this craft over at whatever)

Photobucket
for this project you will need:
  • paper cut into the shape of a rainbow--two pieces for each project so you have a front & back
  • a variety of paint colors
  • paint brushes
  • a variety of streamer colors (not pictured)
  • stuffing (not pictured--we used crumpled up magazine pages)
  • adhesive to attach the front & back of the rainbow, as well as the streamers, together (not pictured--we used glue sticks)

Photobucket
to begin, i modeled what a rainbow looks like, how to fill up the entire space, and how to paint only on the paper and not to overlap colors--unless you wanted to! my boys all made traditional rainbows, but you could use any color or pattern you like.

i think we'll do this project again someday, but with a theme. we could use red, white, and blue paints and hang them up for the 4th of july. fun and festive!

ben was having so much fun he refused to look at me!

i let the boys just create. it was a very independent project. this was also a craft-alone project, but only because i didn't have enough wide paintbrushes. i wish we could have all been painting together.

while ben was painting, taylor and zach were playing in the house and miss natalie... well, she played in the grass for the first time.

tugging on the green stuff is kind of like tugging on your hair, mom!

Photobucket
oh no, did i break it?

Photobucket
zachary's turn! at first he wanted me to draw lines for him to fill in with color, but with a little encouragement, he painted his stripes freehand. nice job, zach!

Photobucket
ta-da... the finished product!

Photobucket
if you turn them upside down, they make really big rainbow smiles... or frowns with rainbow drool.

Photobucket
so pretty hanging in the dining room and a perfect reminder of God's faithfulness.

well that's it! are you ready to get your rainbow on?

what's that? you are wondering why there aren't more pictures of zach painting and why there are none of taylor? of course you are.

it's because my hands were a little tied up taking care of a third, unnamed boy who liked paint so much that he painted something he shouldn't have.

any guesses as to what he painted? :)
